What is a Root Canal?

Many times, people have a tooth that is hurting them and they often will need a root canal. Root canal therapy is the process of removing infected, injured, or dead nerve from the tooth.

The canal is then filled with materials designed to prevent infection from recurring and you can then restore the tooth to its full function. It is always advisable to keep a person’s natural tooth rather than getting it extracted and a root canal allows the infection to be removed and the pain to be gone, similar to getting the tooth extracted but it allows you to keep that tooth.

Root canals have a very negative stigma with a lot of bad comments floating around such as pain during the procedure, tooth never felt right, tooth eventually needing to be extracted etc. At Grace Dental, this does not seem to be the norm when doing this procedure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does root canal therapy hurt?

Root canal therapy is performed under anesthesia, so you shouldn’t feel pain during the procedure. Some discomfort afterward is normal, but it can be managed with pain relievers. Usually the pain during a toothache is much more severe than the pain after a root canal is completed.

What is a root canal?

A root canal is a dental procedure to stop the pain in an infected tooth so it can be saved and repaired.

What happens during root canal treatment?

During root canal treatment, the dentist removes the infected tissue, cleans the inside of the tooth, fills it with an inert, biocompatible material, and seals it up to protect against future infections.

How do you know if you need a root canal?

You might need a root canal if you experience severe tooth pain, prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold, swelling, or an abscess near the affected tooth.

How long does it take to recover from a root canal?

Recovery from a root canal usually takes a few days, though you might experience mild discomfort and sensitivity during this time.

How much does root canal therapy cost?

Root canal therapy costs can range from $800-1,500, depending on the tooth’s location, number of nerves, and complexity of the procedure.

Why choose Grace Dental for root canal?

At Grace Dental Clinic, we offer experienced diagnostic services to determine if a root canal is the best option for the tooth. Many situations are misdiagnosed and a root canal is performed when a tooth is cracked or not saveable giving the public misconception that root canals do not work.

Here at Grace Dental, we take the time to diagnose each situation carefully before recommending any root canal to be performed. If a root canal is done, we provide conscientious care so each canal is carefully found, cleaned and disinfected to make sure the root canal is successful. If unusual anatomy is found, we will refer to an endodontist as needed. Thorough communication preoperative, during the procedure and post-treatment care instructions are given so the patient knows exactly what to expect during the whole time.
